I want to thank the lovely Abbe Fenimore from Studio Ten 25 for being our guest blogger today and sharing with us what she thinks will be hot in 2013….Thanks Abbe!
1. Cruelty-Free Taxidermy
I am so smitten with the man-made hunting trophies, like these wooden deer heads and antler mounts. They are the perfect combination of rustic charm and contemporary sophistication, and I expect to see more variations on these throughout the year. For a softer take on this trend, try incorporating antler details on pillows.
2. Emerald Green Accents
The rich and versatile color of the year is popping up in a fashion and home accessories everywhere. Emerald green accents, like these malachite boxes , exude a luxury that is both modern and vintage. Bringing the chic color into your home can be easy with great accessories and art too. I love these prints by Texas artist Mary Lee, they are affordable and easy to change out!
3. Industrial Glam Lighting
When it comes to lighting, the industrial glam look is perfect for creating balance and visual interest in nearly any setting. For example, the Gyro Chandelier at Timothy Oulton is a gorgeous, versatile piece that adds drama and masculinity to a space. We recently installed one of them over a client’s kitchen island and it completely made the space!
4. Natural Stones, Agates and Crystals
Great design is all about details, and my favorite detail this year is all about the raw, rugged beauty of natural stones, agates and crystals. You’ll see them used to dress up basic items like storage boxes or as stand-alone accessories like bookends and lamps. One of my favorite pieces so far is the new agate lamp from Arteriors Home.
5. Rugs as Focal Points
Rugs with bold patterns and graphics help achieve high style without breaking the bank. They also create a fun element of surprise in a room. I’m in love with Jonathan Adler’s new studio collection for The Rug Company, which is full of fabulous rugs and cushions in bold graphics. Of course who can resist the over the top glam of Diane Von Furstenbergs Climbing Leopard rug?
6. Fashion and Fabrics
I love seeing some of my favorite fashion designers make the move to interiors . Ankasa Home’s new fabric line from Beacon Hill is a stunning collection from fashion designers Sachin and Babi. As if their gorgeous sequin and linen pillows aren’t gorgeous enough! This new line is one I hope to implement in a few upcoming design projects this year.
