During the Architectural Digest Home Design Show this past March Prizer Hoods with the assistance of Kim Lewis outlined the 2014 kitchen trends. Many of you may know Kim as the lead designer of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” but as someone who has never watched the show I’ve come to know her as an energetic designer with a great passion for design. Here are a few color trends Kim and the Prizer Hoods team has forecast for Kitchen Design in 2014.

- Neutrals: This year, gray is the superstar of the neutrals family. Lewis calls gray the “softer side of black.” Not to be forgotten, black continues to speak to the high-end homeowner looking for the feel of an industrial-style design.

- Muted Tones: The “soft as a feather” look lends itself to the color used sparingly theme. This pallet includes white on white, tone on tone and light, airy looks.

-Vagabond Style: Rich in color and heritage, this combination is inspired by lands far away and is perfect for the homeowner that appreciates color and the story it evokes. Deep Moroccan jewel tones like spicy hot pinks and rich emerald greens are popular for those who love to accentuate a neutral kitchen with pops of color {you can see the radiant orchid hood to the left in the picture above}.

Lewis also hinted at the return of brass. I’m a big fan of this trend and can’t wait to see its continued development in design. So, what color trend would you like to try in your own design? I’m a traditional girl at heart but I’m really liking the hints of gray from an industrial standpoint….Happy Designing Everyone!
